"YOU WERE NEVER HERE!"

'You were never here!'

Awarded photography Project

A passport was the first thing that came into mind when National Identity was given to me as a brief. The project came about exploring the idea of the passport’s photo and its connection to the identity of its owner.

I started questioning the identity of people who had been affected when their country had dissolved, no longer existing. Their national identity had been stripped from them but contained and held permanently on a few bits of paper which we call a passport! Cross-examining the research and my own personal assumption, I felt that a passport is often used to to prove ones national identity;  but does it reveal the truthfulness in the identity of its owner?

My aim is to challenge the viewer to consider identifying with somebody who no longer has a national identity and to reflect on what they think is their own individualism.
